Take Care Of Your Ink
Aftercare
Proper aftercare is essential for how your tattoo heals and looks for years to come. Follow these guidelines closely, and reach out if anything feels off.
Do
- Keep the bandage on for the time your artist recommends (usually 2-4 hours)
- Wash gently with fragrance-free antibacterial soap and lukewarm water
- Pat dry with a clean paper towel — never rub
- Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free, alcohol-free moisturizer 2-3 times a day
- Wear loose, breathable clothing over the tattoo
- Keep your skin hydrated and get plenty of rest
Don't
- Don't pick, scratch, or peel flaking skin
- Don't soak in baths, pools, hot tubs, or the ocean until fully healed
- Don't expose the tattoo to direct sunlight or use tanning beds
- Don't apply petroleum-based products like Vaseline in large amounts
- Don't wear tight clothing that rubs against the tattoo
- Don't work out hard enough to sweat heavily over the area for the first week
Healing Timeline
Days 1 – 3
Your tattoo will look bright but feel tender, like a sunburn. Mild redness, swelling, and oozing of plasma/ink are normal.
Days 4 – 7
Itching and peeling begin as the top layer of skin heals. Do not pick or scratch — let it flake off naturally.
Days 7 – 14
Most of the surface healing is complete. The tattoo may look slightly dull or cloudy as the skin continues to regenerate.
Weeks 2 – 4
Deeper healing continues beneath the surface. Colors and lines settle into their final appearance.
Full Healing
Most tattoos are fully healed within 4–6 weeks, though it can take longer for larger pieces. Keep moisturizing and protecting from the sun.
